The Home Security Store website actually represents a partnership between the Home Security Store for equipment and Alarm Relay, Inc. for monitoring. The Home Security Store, like SafeMart, does not offer installation but rather sells self-installed devices that you install in your home independently. For its wide range of equipment and the lowest-priced monitoring services, the Home Security Store earned the TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award on our list of the best sites for home security monitoring.
Home Security Store offers home security monitoring through a company called Alarm Relay. Together they offer a lower price than any other company on our lineup. When you install your security devices from the Home Security Store, you will install a special phone jack component that allows your system to be monitored through the phone line. This special phone jack is set up to override the phone system and give priority to your trouble signal in the event of an alarm. This means that if you are on the phone when your alarm goes off, your call will be disconnected in order to send the trouble signal to the monitoring station.
All security systems are programmed with a short delay after one of your devices is triggered before a trouble signal is sent to the home security monitoring station. This delay is usually between 30 seconds and two minutes, just enough time for you to enter your home and deactivate the system. If you don’t deactivate the system during that time, the monitoring station will call you to verify that the alarm is not accidental. If you don’t answer or you fail to provide the correct password, the monitoring station will dispatch the police.
Even though Home Security Store doesn’t provide monitoring directly, its partnership with Alarm Relay means that all the monitoring-ready devices you buy from Home Security Store are compatible with Alarm Relay’s service. The UL-listed home security monitoring station at Alarm Relay has been in operation for 10 years.
The surveillance cameras sold by Home Security Store (and other sellers) work differently from other pieces of security equipment because they are not monitored by your home security monitoring service. When you set up surveillance cameras or video baby monitors, you hook them to monitors where you can view and/or record what the cameras capture.
Home Security Store has a wide selection of self-installed devices, with many obscure devices we didn’t see on other sites. A lot of the devices sold individually on this site are not meant to be monitored by an outside service. For example, there are a variety of door alarms that are designed to sound an audible alarm if a door is opened. You might place one of these door sensors on an emergency door, for example. The emergency door alarms can also be configured to unlock a business’s emergency exits in case of an emergency to allow everyone to exit the building as quickly as possible. Many devices come in different forms, with the option to have them sound an audible alarm when tripped or to communicate with your remote home security monitoring service.
Home Security Store is a good place to buy individual security devices that are not necessarily integrated into an entire security system. For almost any concern you have about safety inside and outside your home, Home Security Store has a high tech device to address that concern.
Under the first tab, “Alarm Systems,” you can choose an alarm package with a basic set of equipment. Both wired and wireless versions are available. These basic packages include a control panel and a keypad. The control panel is the brain of the system that coordinates all the devices together and communicates with the home security monitoring station. The keypad allows the user to control the system and also indicates which device has been tripped when your alarm is going off. Aside from the control panel and keypad (which may be combined into one device), the alarm packages include basic burglary protection in the form of one or more motion sensors and entry point sensors, and key fobs or panic buttons. Some packages also include phone jack adaptors or special wires you’ll need to hook up your system. When you click on one of the alarm packages and scroll down the page, you can see the price and description of each individual device. Here you can also swap out one or more of the devices to create your own custom alarm package.
In lieu of an alarm package, you can choose a set of individual devices based on your security goals. Home Security Store sorts the devices into different categories and many come in wireless or hardwired versions. With the exception of surveillance equipment, most of the devices can be connected together and monitored remotely as part of your home security monitoring plan.
For a very high-tech alternative to traditional baby monitors, Home Security Store sells video baby monitors consisting of a camera that you place next to the crib and then a small handheld monitor that you can carry with you or put next to your own bed to easily check in on your baby.
Under the “Home Automation” tab, you’ll find a set of devices to automate various areas of your home. For example, this section contains garage door controls and entry gate sensors. Even though Home Security Store focuses on security devices for homes, most of them could also be used in commercial settings.
Home Security Store offers customer support by phone or email. Because the devices sold on this site are all self-installed, unless you are a certified electrician, you are likely to need some help getting your system up and running. All the devices come with detailed installation specifications and instructions, but the technical support team at Home Security Store can help you if you get stuck. If your system isn’t working properly, the tech support team will walk you through troubleshooting procedures to isolate the problem. If you determine that one of your devices is broken, you will be responsible for purchasing a new device unless it is still covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. Tech support from Home Security Store is free for devices purchased from this company; for devices purchased elsewhere, you can still get tech support buy you must pre-pay for this service in 30 minute increments.
Home Security Store earned a top spot on our list for offering the lowest price on home security monitoring that we could find,. They also sell a wide range of security devices, both wired and wireless, that can be connected to your system for remote monitoring or can simply be configured to sound an audible alarm. Beyond the traditional security system components, Home Security Store sells a number of self-monitored devices like video baby monitors. This site is a good choice for customers with technical knowledge who are able to install their own devices.
